Scott Chilton, the former chief constable of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, has been found guilty of gross misconduct following a police disciplinary hearing.

The panel concluded that Chilton displayed entitlement, dishonesty and a lack of integrity through sexual relationships with two officers who were junior to him in the force’s hierarchy.

The hearing also considered evidence that Chilton engaged in sexual activity while on call to lead responses to major incidents. He had retired from the chief constable post before the proceedings were held.

According to The Guardian, the ruling means Chilton is barred from serving as a police officer again.

The case underlines the scrutiny applied to senior police leaders over personal conduct, conflicts of power and the professional obligations attached to operational command roles.
